How to treat your back at home

rub your back for pain

Pain in the lumbar region is associated with sciatica in most people, although the causes of its occurrence vary widely.

Such a symptom accompanies not only the defeat of the paravertebral structures, but also many diseases of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems, as well as metabolic disorders and oncological processes.

For this reason, before using alternative methods, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor and find out the cause of the pain.

In addition, acute back pain cannot always be stopped with the usual methods – tablets or lotions. Sometimes surgery or therapeutic blockage is required.

A complex approach

If the back hurts in the lumbar region, the most common diagnosis is "osteochondrosis" or "intervertebral hernia". The main condition for successful treatment is the elimination of the causative factor that caused the pain. Otherwise medication or physiotherapy are powerless and the disease becomes chronic.

The treatment of the back and spine begins with a gentle therapy, i. e. the renunciation of any physical activity. If the pain is severe, bed rest is recommended. To speed up recovery and get rid of discomfort, doctors advise buying an orthopedic pillow and mattress.

This reduces the load on the spine, prevents compression of nerve endings and muscle spasms. If it is not possible to purchase special equipment, then it is better to sleep on a mattress of medium firmness and choose a pillow of medium thickness.

Drug therapy prescribed by the doctor, as a rule, includes vitamin complexes in addition to anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs. In the rehabilitation period, physiotherapy, exercise therapy, massage are carried out. As an additional method, you can use folk remedies, which should be agreed in advance with your doctor. With a known diagnosis and the approval of a specialist, treatment of the spine at home will be much more effective.

Folk recipes for back pain

You can get rid of pain with the help of ordinary mustard plasters, which are available in almost every home. Due to the local reflex effect, they irritate the skin and increase blood circulation. The blood rush accelerates metabolic processes in the tissue, improves oxygen transport, reduces pain and inflammation. Another important effect of mustard plasters is the stimulation of the synthesis of adrenaline and noradrenaline, which has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system.

Recipe number 1. Add 50 ml of furacilin and a teaspoon of liquid honey to the water for mustard plasters. You can use a ready-made solution of Furacilin (sold at a pharmacy) or dissolve 1 tablet in 50 ml of water. Dip the prepared mustard plaster in the solution for a few seconds, remove it and apply to the sore spot.

Hold the compress until a burning sensation occurs, then remove and wipe skin dry. Lubricate it with cream or oil, cover with plastic wrap and wrap in a warm cloth.

Recipe number 2. Burdock leaves are another affordable home remedy for back and lower back pain relief. Rinse a few fresh leaves, then stack them in a pile so that the green and purple sides touch. Dip this pile in boiling water and boil for 2-3 minutes, carefully remove, without disturbing their mutual arrangement, and cool. Apply to lower back and secure with bandage and warm scarf.

What to do if someone "enters" from behind

It is believed that men are more prone to sciatica because they do physical work or exercise, lift and carry heavy loads, drive for long periods of time, and are often overweight. As a result, they often complain of being "back grabbed" or "wedged" in the lumbar region.

Lumbar back pain can happen anywhere: at work, at the gym, or at home. In this case, first aid measures will help:

  • Find the most beneficial position, where the pain is least felt, and stay in that position.
  • do not make sudden movements, it is advisable not to move at all;
  • are taking a pain reliever or anti-inflammatory drug (diclofenac, ibuprofen);
  • apply an anti-inflammatory ointment to the painful area;
  • If there is an elastic wool belt, tie it around the waist and fix the spine in a fixed position.
  • Lie on your back, bend your knees and put a pillow made of a folded towel or blanket underneath. In this position, the lumbar muscles relax as much as possible.

If the described recommendations are followed, the pain usually subsides in about half an hour. If after a severe spinal injury there was an attack of burning pain, it is imperative to contact a traumatologist.

Medical help is also required in the following cases:

  • the victim is over 60 years old;
  • have an oncological disease;
  • increased body temperature;
  • seizure was preceded by long-term treatment with hormonal drugs;
  • Lower back pain bothers more than a month;
  • Significantly reduced body weight despite lack of nutrition.

If there are no analgesics at home and there is no strength to prepare remedies according to folk recipes, you can try to numb your back with a burdock leaf. It does not need to be scalded with boiling water, soaked or boiled, just applied to the body with a shiny side. Secure the top with a bandage and wrap with a wool scarf. Do not keep the compress for more than 12 hours.

An equally simple recipe involves the use of valerian tincture if burdock was not found. It is necessary to moisten gauze or cotton cloth in it, which should then be put on the lower back.

The next 2 recipes are a little more difficult to prepare: one of them requires black radish, and the second requires turpentine and red clay.

Recipe number 1. Grate the radish and place on a cheesecloth. Apply to the back, cover with cellophane and isolate the affected area of the back. Hold until intense heat occurs.

Recipe number 2. Dilute 1 kg of clay with water and add 3 tablespoons of turpentine. You get a mass that looks like a cake, which is used as a compress.

Compresses, lotions, rubs: fast and effective

Treating low back pain at home is primarily a therapeutic application, for which herbs, vegetables, mustard powder, honey and even dough are used. They have all the necessary properties to relieve unpleasant symptoms.

A hot compress can be made from herbal tea, for which you will need black elderberry, chamomile, thyme and St. John's wort. Herbs should be taken in equal parts, pour boiling water and infuse for 15-20 minutes. The procedure is best done at night: moisten gauze in the infusion, attach it to the lower back, cover with polyethylene and fix.

Dissolve mustard powder in warm water until creamy. Spread the resulting ointment on your back and warm it up. Hold until burning, but no longer than 5 minutes.

Butter yeast dough is wrapped around the waist on several layers of gauze, and the compress is fixed with a bandage. The layer of dough is about two centimeters. It is better to do the procedure at bedtime and leave the test lotion overnight. The duration of treatment is 10 days.

Warning: any warm compresses should not cause pain and discomfort, the desired effect is a slight warmth and tingling. If discomfort occurs, it is necessary to remove the application and wash off the composition with warm water.

Removes well the bodyagi powder mixed with olive oil. Such an ointment is applied to the lower back and warms it. The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes.

Horse chestnut for back pain

Horse chestnuts can be found in many cities, and the fruits fully ripen in September. For treatment, you can use fresh chestnuts or buy a ready-made tincture at a pharmacy.

Horse chestnut is used for back or joint pain. This plant has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect, so it is widely used to treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

If you have sciatica, it's a good idea to wear a belt or pants with pockets that have horse chestnuts in them. An ointment is made from them by mixing the crushed fruit with camphor oil. To cure osteochondrosis or neuralgia, you can replace camphor oil with internal or melted lard. The effect will be enhanced if you put the mixture on a piece of brown bread and apply it to the affected area.

For the next recipe you will need: a bottle of Triple Cologne, 2 bottles of valerian and iodine, 5 pods of red pepper. Mix the ingredients in a dark glass bottle, shake and insist for a day. At night, just lubricate the lower back with tincture or pull a net like iodine. Wrap your back from above with a down or wool scarf.

A lotion made from petroleum and beets can relieve the pain in just a day. It works like this: grate the unpeeled beets, squeeze them and remove the juice. Combine the remaining cake with kerosene (1 tbsp. L). In order not to burn the skin, the mixture is first spread on the fabric, and then on the back. Cover with cling film and tie a warm scarf around it.

Recipes with garlic

It is not for nothing that this vegetable is called the remedy for 100 diseases. It contains many useful substances, the most valuable of which is allicin. Garlic is useful for both adults and children, it is indispensable for colds and reduced immunity. In the Middle Ages it served to protect against plague and cholera.

According to recent studies, the presence of garlic in the human diet can even prevent cancer as it destroys cancer cells in the mouth and upper respiratory tract. Some scientists equate the power of garlic with chemotherapy.

If your lower back hurts, you can concoct a garlic elixir or a rub. The healing mixture for internal use is prepared as follows: peel the garlic clove and chop it in a blender or on a grater. Do the same with a lemon without first peeling it and scalding it with boiling water.

Pour lemon and garlic pulp with a liter of warm water, leave for two days, filter and pour into a glass container. Drink 2 tbsp. l after meals 3 times a day. The duration of treatment is one month. Store the prepared mixture in the refrigerator.

Lower back pain stops when garlic-lemon compresses are made within 30-35 days. The healing liquid for them is prepared a little differently. 2 cloves of garlic must be passed through a press or otherwise chopped, combined with 1 liter of water and put in a dark place for a day. Then the sieved infusion is mixed with the juice of two lemons. Lemon can be substituted for lime in this recipe.

Garlic and lemon tincture will keep in the refrigerator for no more than two weeks. To prepare a compress, gauze or cotton cloth is moistened in the tincture, which is applied to the back under polyethylene. The intervention time is 20-30 minutes.

For rubbing and warming lotions, the following remedy is recommended: garlic squeezed through a press is combined with melted lard in a 1: 2 ratio. Any fat is suitable - beef, pork, lamb, you can also take goose or inner fat. Store the mixture in a glass jar with a tightly closed lid, shelf life in the refrigerator is 2 weeks.

Before use, the product is warmed and rubbed into the affected area 2-4 times a day, after treatment it is better to wrap your back with a warm or woolen towel.

Horseradish Recipes

Treatment with folk remedies at home includes the use of horseradish. Alcohol tinctures, ointments, compresses and lotions are made from it, for which the leaves or roots of the plant are taken.

Recipe number 1. Put a few leaves of horseradish in a glass container and pour 0. 5 liters of vodka. Insist for two days. The procedure consists in kneading wet leaves on a sore spot. The same tincture can be made from the root, it will take 8-10 small roots filled with vodka. The exposure time is longer here - at least two weeks. Rub the lower back with the prepared solution.

All medicinal properties are preserved in the roots of horseradish, even when ground or grated in a blender: the therapeutic effect is retained for three days.

Recipe number 2. Squeeze the horseradish, crushed or grated in a meat grinder, and mix the resulting juice with olive oil in a 2: 1 ratio. Rub the spasmodic muscles of the lower back in a circular motion.

Recipe number 3. Prepared, as in the previous recipe, horseradish mixed with sour cream (2 tablespoons), put on the back, cover with cling film and a warm scarf. Apply a compress for 30-40 minutes, wash off the composition, wipe the skin and wrap the lower back with a warm towel. The duration of treatment is 3 weeks, the procedure is carried out every day 2-3 times a day. Instead of sour cream, you can use honey.

Recipe number 4. Pass the roots and leaves of horseradish through a meat grinder and put the resulting "minced meat" in a linen bag. It is more convenient to do the procedure together, since it will be difficult to do it yourself. Place a bag of horseradish on the lower back and iron with a preheated iron for at least three minutes. After that, cover the compress from above with a warm scarf and lie down for 15–20 minutes. Then remove the bag. A bag of horseradish leaves can be used several times.

Recipe number 5. Grated horseradish root and potatoes (one each), 1 tbsp. l mix honey and apply to the lumbar region with a layer of 1 cm, cover with polyethylene and a warm scarf. To be effective, you must endure at least half an hour. Sessions can be done daily until the pain goes away.

Treatment according to folk recipes is not an alternative, but an additional method that has many advantages. Since natural ingredients are used, side effects are minimal. It also rules out addiction, which you can't say with some painkillers.

However, it must be borne in mind that serious diseases require mandatory medication. Carrying out treatment at home, you can miss time or speed up the pathological process. Therefore, if lumbar pain occurs with a deterioration in the general condition, it is necessary to consult a specialist. The attending physician can not only approve but also recommend one or another remedy from the piggy bank of folk recipes. Bless you!
